Land Rover LR2 common problems: what to check before you buy
Credov's researched list of the 4 faults the Land Rover LR2 is known for (2007–2014), 3 of them serious or costly. Each one says what to look for when you check the car, so you can spot it before you buy. Not every car has these faults: they are the ones worth checking on this model.

What to look for: At 50-100 km/h listen for a hum or whine from behind the rear seats that changes with speed or throttle.
Why it matters: Left alone this wear can damage the Haldex coupling as well and eventually lock or break the differential, turning a bearing repair into a much larger bill; overseas dealers have quoted several thousand dollars for a rebuild or exchange unit.
What to look for: On loose gravel or wet grass, pull away firmly with the wheel straight and check the rear wheels are also driving.
Why it matters: A failed Haldex pump silently turns an all-wheel-drive car into a front-wheel-drive one, which matters most exactly when off-road or all-wheel traction is needed, and a car that has never had its Haldex oil changed is at higher risk regardless of odometer reading.
What to look for: On the drive, listen for a whine or growl from the front at speed, and a clunk when taking up drive.
Why it matters: A failing PTU can mean the car is effectively front-wheel drive only despite being sold as all-wheel drive, and a genuine replacement unit has been quoted at several thousand pounds, though refurbished units cost considerably less.
What to look for: Run a finger along the inside lip of each rear wheel arch and check the bonnet's front underside edge for bubbling.
Why it matters: Caught early it is a wire brush, paint and cavity wax job; left alone it becomes welding and a repaint on the rear arch, so this check can change the negotiating price significantly.
