LDV V80 common problems: what to check before you buy
Credov's researched list of the 4 faults the LDV V80 is known for (2012–2021), 4 of them serious or costly. Each one says what to look for when you check the car, so you can spot it before you buy. Not every car has these faults: they are the ones worth checking on this model.

What to look for: Open and shut the sliding door several times, feeling for binding, a dropped rear edge, or a door that won't latch.
Why it matters: A door that drops off its runner or fails to latch is both a security risk and an expensive repair, with new rollers, runner and catch plus alignment work, and parts can take weeks to arrive.
What to look for: Accelerate hard through second and third gear and check it pulls past 3,000 rpm without a flat spot or warning light.
Why it matters: A van stuck in limp mode has lost most of its power and can be dangerous to drive in traffic, and continuing to use it that way accelerates turbo wear towards a full and costly turbo failure.
What to look for: Pull away uphill in second gear and feel for slip or shudder, and listen at idle in neutral for bellhousing rattle.
Why it matters: Clutch and dual-mass flywheel failure is reported early and often on this van, and when the flywheel fails it can take the clutch and gearbox internals with it, turning a moderate job into a much larger one.
What to look for: Select Drive, Reverse and back several times and check each engages within about a second with no dropped or neutral gear.
Why it matters: A van that drops into neutral or refuses to select a gear by itself, including at traffic lights, is both inconvenient and a safety concern in traffic, and a full AMT gearbox replacement is a major repair with long parts waits reported.
