What to look for: Switch the wipers on and come to several full stops with stop-start active.
Why it matters: Toyota's bulletin T-SB-0020-23 says stop-start may not restart the engine during wiper use, or may switch itself back on after being cancelled, and fixes it with a reprogram of the engine computer. Cars without the update can still do it. Left unrepaired this is a safety risk on top of the repair bill.
What to look for: Switch on the panoramic view monitor and check the front, left and right camera pictures are live and clear.
Why it matters: Toyota says the lost left-side view means the car may not meet Japan's vision safety standard, and it matters for parking and low-speed manoeuvres. In Japan it is a free dealer fix; in New Zealand a camera unit can be dear if you have to pay for it.
