Toyota Previa Hybrid common problems: what to check before you buy
Credov's researched list of the 2 faults the Toyota Previa Hybrid is known for (2006–2019), 2 of them serious or costly. Each one says what to look for when you check the car, so you can spot it before you buy. Not every car has these faults: they are the ones worth checking on this model.
What to look for: Listen near the left front of the engine bay for the brake pump running repeatedly or buzzing every 10 seconds.
Why it matters: Early signs are a buzzing or 'squeaking' noise from the pump every few seconds when parked or braking, or the pump running for long periods. When it fails the car beeps, shows VSC/ABS/brake warnings and regenerative braking stops, the pedal goes hard and you need a lot of force to stop. A related fault is the brake control power supply (a capacitor unit that backs up the actuator), which sets ABS lights.
What to look for: Bonnet up with the car in READY.
Why it matters: Replacing the pump (and the reservoir cap) early is cheap compared with an inverter. Japanese owners replace it as preventive maintenance on high-km cars. Left unrepaired this grows into a major repair bill.

On top of the faults above, every Credov inspection covers the basics: fuel smell, leaks or filler rust, engine oil leaks, power steering fluid leak, drive belt cracks or squeal, rust underneath: chassis and mounts, engine mounts, engine oil level and colour, coolant level, colour and leaks, head gasket failure signs, cold start: rattle, knock or smoke, rough or hunting idle, engine running hot on gauge, gearbox or diff oil leak, swapped gearbox without lvv and more.
