Power sliding door cable snaps

Minor

2007–2014 · petrol · Electrical

What to look for: Work both sliding doors several times from the key, the B-pillar button, the dash switch and the door handle.

Why it matters: Symptoms are a grinding or rattling 'whirr-clunk' when the button is pressed, the door stopping part-way, reversing, or not moving at all while the motor can still be heard running. The motor itself usually survives; the fix is a new or used cable and pulley assembly, which means removing the door trim and often a seat. Japanese owners report dealer quotes of about 70,000-80,000 yen and DIY repairs with used cables.
