P0562 fault code: what it means

P0562: System voltage is low. Car may go flat and leave you stranded.

Engine and gearbox (powertrain) · Costly if missed

Usual causes, most likely first

  1. failing alternator or voltage regulator
  2. worn or slipping drive belt
  3. corroded or loose battery terminals
  4. old or faulty battery

P0562 by make

Audi

System voltage too low. On DSG7 (DQ200) cars it can come from the blown 30A mechatronic pump fuse and stop the car driving.

Usual causes: weak battery or failing alternator; poor earth or wiring to a control module; blown DSG7 hydraulic pump fuse (overheated pump)

BMW

System voltage low. On BMW often a weak battery or a new battery that was not registered to the car, plus IBS sensor faults.

Usual causes: weak or worn battery; battery replaced but not registered; alternator or IBS battery sensor fault

GWM

System voltage low.

Usual causes: weak battery; failing alternator; poor terminals or earth

Haval

System voltage low. A weak 12 V battery can also set other module and gearbox warnings.

Usual causes: weak or aged battery; failing alternator; poor terminals or earth

Hyundai

System voltage low.

Usual causes: failing alternator or voltage regulator; weak battery; loose or corroded battery terminals or earth; parasitic battery drain

Isuzu

System voltage low.

Usual causes: weak battery; failing alternator; poor terminals or earth

Jeep

System voltage low.

Usual causes: weak battery; failing alternator; poor battery terminals or earth

Kia

System voltage low.

Usual causes: failing alternator; weak or failing battery; loose or corroded battery terminals

LDV

System voltage low.

Usual causes: weak battery; failing alternator; poor terminals or earth

MG

System voltage low. A weak 12 V battery can also set other module warnings, on petrol and EV models alike.

Usual causes: weak or aged 12 V battery; failing alternator / DC-DC charging; poor terminals or earth

Mini

System voltage low. As on BMW, a new battery must be registered to the car or charging goes wrong.

Usual causes: weak or worn battery; battery replaced but not registered; alternator or battery sensor fault

Skoda

System voltage too low. On DSG7 (DQ200) cars it can come from the blown 30A mechatronic pump fuse and stop the car driving.

Usual causes: weak battery or failing alternator; poor earth or wiring to a control module; blown DSG7 hydraulic pump fuse (overheated pump)

Suzuki

System voltage low.

Usual causes: weak battery; failing alternator; poor terminals or earth

Volkswagen

System voltage too low. On DSG7 (DQ200) cars it can come from the blown 30A mechatronic pump fuse and stop the car driving.

Usual causes: weak battery or failing alternator; poor earth or wiring to a control module; blown DSG7 hydraulic pump fuse (overheated pump)

Before you clear it

Write the code down or photograph the scanner first. A code that comes straight back after clearing points to a fault that is still there. A car whose codes were cleared just before you arrived may be hiding one: the scanner's readiness monitors show "not ready" for a while after codes are cleared.

Researched by Credov from manufacturer and workshop sources. A fault code points to where a fault may be; a workshop confirms it with a diagnosis. Browse all fault codes.
