Volkswagen CC common problems: what to check before you buy

Credov's researched list of the 2 faults the Volkswagen CC is known for (2005–2010), 2 of them serious or costly. Each one says what to look for when you check the car, so you can spot it before you buy. Not every car has these faults: they are the ones worth checking on this model.

Known problems on the Volkswagen CC

Airbag control unit recall

Safety risk

2015–2016 · Electrical

What to look for: Check the airbag light comes on, then goes out and stays out on the drive, and ask for the recall record.

Why it matters: NHTSA's notice says the fault can deactivate the airbags or deploy them inadvertently, and that inadvertent deployment increases crash risk. The car cannot be delivered with an airbag fault, and the ECU is a dealer-coded part.

Steering column lock fails

Costly if missed

2005–2010 · Electrical

What to look for: Start the car from cold five times in a row and watch for a delay, a dash symbol or a sticking key.

Why it matters: Owner reports cluster from about 80,000 to 240,000 km, and because the fault often sets no code early on, a car that 'just needed a jump' may really have this wearing lock unit - a later full-column dealer fix was quoted at well over a thousand dollars.
