What to look for: Look behind each rear tyre with a torch for cracks or heavy rust on the subframe, and ask for the recall record.
Why it matters: Regulator recall record: the rear-axle carrier side sections may fracture on 2013-2015 Boxster, 2013-2014 Boxster S, 2014-2015 Cayman / Cayman S and 2015 Boxster GTS / Cayman GTS. A fractured carrier is a loss-of-control hazard; the fix is a Porsche Centre job, free under the campaign, but only if it has been done. 718 (982) cars are not covered by this record.
What to look for: Shine a torch through the front intakes for debris and corroded fins, and check for oily residue in the arches.
Why it matters: A stone-holed condenser or a corroded radiator means a repair bill and, in the meantime, air-con that no longer cools or a coolant leak risk. Because the damage sits out of sight behind the bumper, checking with a torch is the only way to catch it before buying.
