2015–2020 · Suspension and steering
What to look for: Feel for a clunk at the steering column base as you rock the wheel, and ask for the recall record.
Why it matters: Recalled in both markets (ACCC PRA 2020/18278; NZ recall reported by Autofile 22 June 2020 for 2016-2020 Q7): the bolted connection between the steering shaft and the rack may not have been torqued, and a loosened joint can cost the driver steering control.
What to look for: Ask for both rear axle recall records, and feel the rear tyres for uneven or inner-edge wear.
Why it matters: Australian register REC-001665 (September 2021): out-of-spec rear axle nuts can break, letting the wishbone and hub carrier move and the rear axle steer itself. REC-005076 (March 2022): the first repair can misalign the axle, causing rapid tyre wear and a possible sudden flat.
What to look for: Ask if the fuel pump recall was done, check the emissions light goes out, and feel for hesitation or cut-outs when driving.
Why it matters: Australian register REC-005604 and NZ recall (Autofile, 24 January 2023, Q7/Q8 2019-2021): the fuel delivery unit can break from pressure pulsations, with pieces damaging the fuel system and causing sudden loss of motive power.
