Suzuki Bandit common problems: what to check before you buy

Credov's researched list of the 3 faults the Suzuki Bandit is known for (2015–2020), 3 of them serious or costly. Each one says what to look for when you check the car, so you can spot it before you buy. Not every car has these faults: they are the ones worth checking on this model.

Known problems on the Suzuki Bandit

CVT valve body wear

Costly if missed

2010–2015 · K12B · petrol · Gearbox

What to look for: From a standstill, press the accelerator firmly and feel for a delay or jerking before it pulls away.

Why it matters: This is a known, manufacturer-acknowledged wear point on this model and, outside the warranty extension period, a full CVT repair is a meaningful cost relative to the car's value.

Typical repair: NZ$1,500–NZ$3,800 in New Zealand · A$1,550–A$3,910 in Australia

CVT valve body wear

Costly if missed

2015–2020 · K12C · Gearbox

What to look for: From a standstill, press the throttle firmly and feel for a pause, surge or revs rising without speed.

Why it matters: Suzuki's own warranty-extension notice confirms this valve body wears on this generation, and the fix is a full valve body replacement, not a fluid top-up.

Typical repair: NZ$1,500–NZ$3,000 in New Zealand · A$1,550–A$3,090 in Australia

Hybrid ISG belt cracks

Costly if missed

2015–2020 · K12C · hybrid · Hybrid and EV

What to look for: With a torch, check the ribbed drive belt for cracks, glazing or fraying across the ribs.

Why it matters: A belt failure on this hybrid stops the water pump as well as the charging system, so the car can overheat and, in the worst case, stall and not restart, and even a replaced belt is reported to need checking again well before most belts would.

Typical repair: NZ$250–NZ$600 in New Zealand · A$260–A$620 in Australia
